For the love of a home
with a little character.
A home note from Jordan Tillery-Downs
Notice what makes you stop scrolling.
A wall of windows, an original fireplace, warm wood, a layout that feels a little different. Knowing what draws you in helps us find homes with the qualities you enjoy, even when the listing photos do not do them justice.
Separate the charm from the work.
Original details can be a reason to love a home. They can also come with maintenance questions. We’ll look at the features you want to preserve and the condition questions to explore with qualified professionals.
Look at how the space lives.
Where would you set down a bag? How does light move through the rooms? Is there room for the furniture you use every day? A home’s character is more enjoyable when its layout works for you.
Make room for your own point of view.
You do not need every finish to be new or every room to match. Sometimes the best possibility is a house with good bones and a few details you can thoughtfully make your own.
Bring the right questions.
If you are considering changes, talk with the relevant contractors and town staff before assuming a project is simple or allowed. A little investigation can help you decide whether the home’s possibilities fit your budget and plans.
If you love homes with personality, I’d love to hear what you are hoping to find.
